Mainmark has successfully remediated a large concrete culvert under State Highway 58 using a new, technologically advanced solution
The ground engineering company has extended its capabilities into asset preservation solutions with the introduction of ENCAP6®, a technologically advanced solution for revitalising, sealing, protecting and structurally reinforcing ageing assets.
With the New Zealand government committed to renewing the country’s infrastructure as part of its Thirty Year Infrastructure Plan 2015, ENCAP6 is a new, patented microfibre infused vinyl ester-based polymer coating solution for utility structural repair and rehabilitation.
It features exceptional chemical and abrasion resistance and provides excellent long term structural performance. Representing a significant cost saving compared to replacement of existing assets, the easy-to-spray solution bonds tenaciously to concrete and steel surfaces in varying thicknesses to deliver site specific engineered outcomes.
ENCAP6 has been used successfully to remediate a large concrete culvert under State Highway 58 near Murphy’s Road, Wellington, which had suffered from structural defects and pipe joint displacement due to its age.
A natural waterfall located four metres behind the culvert presented a major challenge as thousands of litres of water per minute continuously flowed through the culvert.
Mainmark was able to divert the flow of water to enable the application of its durable ENCAP6 solution to cost effectively add life to this infrastructure for another 10 years.
ENCAP6 met the rigorous specifications enabling it to be used in this environmentally sensitive area where water flowed directly into a natural river system.
The project took less than two weeks to complete without the requirement for lane closures and continual traffic management procedures, saving thousands of dollars compared to alternate solutions.
ENCAP6 features a high degree of hydrolytic stability compared to other polymer solutions, guaranteeing a longer service life when in contact with moisture, water or chemicals. It is suitable for use on bridges, manholes, lift stations, pipes, tanks and drains, and many other infrastructure assets.
