Mainmark has introduced a structurally advanced mass void fill solution for civil and geotechnical applications
What is claimed to be the world’s most advanced structural lightweight cementitious-based filler for geotechnical applications, Terefil is an innovative solution is a cost-effective alternative to traditional void-filling methods such as aggregate or granular fills.
Terefil recently proved its worth to Christchurch construction and maintenance company, City Care, which used the solution as an emergency void-fill solution for an abandoned pipeline on Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch.
Mainmark took just two hours to pump approximately 110 metres of Terefil, which delivered a superior strength of more than 2MPa in 28 days.
Fitzgerald Avenue is one of the four main avenues in Christchurch, with an average daily traffic count of 30,668 vehicles.
Terefil allowed Mainmark to minimise traffic interruptions by getting the job done quickly within a standard eight-hour day, and maintaining traffic flow by closing just one lane.
This was a resounding result given the alternative solution would have required digging up the pipe which would have been expensive and caused significant traffic disruption.
Terefil is a versatile and reliable solution to help solve a range of civil and geotechnical challenges, and is ideal for time-sensitive or emergency situations as it can be applied quickly and accurately.
In addition to being suitable for abandoned inground pipes, it is also designed as a mass fill for large geological voids, sink holes, tanks, tunnels, mineshafts as well as other mass-fill requirements such as bridge approaches and landslip repairs.
The solution is self-levelling, able to withstand significant pressure and will maintain its integrity under heavy loads. Once applied, Terefil can withstand heavy loads including large machinery and vehicular traffic.
Terefil is applied to a density and strength matched precisely to a project’s specified engineering requirements and is available as a pervious or impervious mix, delivering significant cost and installation benefits.
It also does not require compaction, making it ideal for situations where future settlement can’t be tolerated.
Shrinkage is typically less than 0.1 to 0.3 percent with zero bleed and compressive strengths of 300kPa to 10MPa.
It is also pumpable to distances of up to 4000 metres at rates, ranging from tens of metres cubed per hour to 100 metres cubed per hour.
